The sandwich was named after its creator John Montagu, 4th Earl of Sandwich, who enjoyed eating meat between two pieces of bread. This allowed him to play cards without using cutlery or getting grease on the cards.  Soon, this practice was widespread until this day.

There have been many variations to this creation and one of the most delicious is the grilled cheese sandwich. At Great Harvest, we have a few tricks to make this treat even more irresistible.

Cheese

Great ingredients translate into great flavour! Your cheese should be able to melt. We would recommend american, gruyere or fontina cheese. Cut it in thin slices to allow it melt easier or even better: grate it! Remember to use plenty of this delicious ingredient.

Bread

Another common mistake is cutting your bread too thick! Thin slices will make it crunchy and delicious. Sourdough and rye would provide a great flavor and don’t forget to get whole wheat grain bread to keep it nutritious.

Technique

Before you start to preheat your pan, here’s the trick: you will have to butter the bread! After that put the butter side down and add your cheese. Use your spatula to flip your sandwich after one side is toasted. It’s that simple!

The proper method and the right ingredients will help you create an amazing sandwich. Remember these simple tips!

Don’t forget that at Great Harvest, we use whole grain flour to create the most delicious and healthy products. Think about us, next time you are looking for the best bread in Nashua
